Investments into Murmansk Transport Hub project will total RUB 145 bln – Murmansk Region Government

Investments into the development of Murmansk Transport Hub (MTH project) will total some RUB 145 bln, Aleksei Tyukavin, First Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region, said at the VI International Forum «Arctic: the Present and the Future».

When speaking about the Kola anchor zone prospects, Aleksei Tyukavin described it as the core of Murmansk Transport Hub which is on the list of 17 most promising projects of Russia’s Arctic Zone development.

Together with the projects on reconstruction of the airport and highways, development of shipping services and modernization of port infrastructure, MTH will form the largest Arctic logistics center in Murmansk.

Among the priority projects the official mentioned those of NOVATEK (construction of a specialized large tonnage offshore shipbuilding center) and Rosneft (creation of a coastal base to support offshore projects in the Arctic).  The list also includes the projects of the Murmansk Region’s largest mining companies with total investments exceeding RUB 117 bln.

The project on comprehensive development of Murmansk Transport Hub is included into the Federal Targeted Programme “Development of Russia’s Transport System in 2010-2020”. The project which is being implemented through private-public partnership and which is to be completed in 2018 provides for the development of sea, rail and road transport infrastructure, as well as the development of logistics and storage infrastructure.

The project foresees the construction of a new railway branch to the left shore of the Kola Bay (including two railway stations and a railway bridge across the Kola Bay), where private investors will build a new coal transshipment facility (commercial seaport Lavna) and an oil terminal.
