Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania between January and November 2016 increased by 4.5% on the same period's figures and totaled 36.72 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics said. In November, the port handled 3.45 mln t of cargo (+21.5%) including 1.51 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+28%), 997,980 t of general cargo (+8.8%) and 944,560 t of dry bulk cargo (+26.8%).
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2015 (including Butinge Terminal) rose 9% (y-o-y) to 38.44 million tonnes.
