Nuclear-powered icebreaker Yamal leaves Murmansk upon completion of repairs (photo)

On 1 February 2017, nuclear-powered icebreaker Yamal left the port of Murmansk for the Kara Sea. According to FSUE Atomflot, the icebreaker will operate in the water area of the Northern Sea Route till the end of July under the contracts with Yamal LNG and Gazprom Neft. Th ship will also provide icebreaker escort services to the vessels of Arctic Mining Company. 

The icebreaker was under repair in October 2016 – January 2017.

“Large scale repair works have been performed, - says Oleg Darbinyan, Head of Fleet Technical Operations Department, FSUE Atomflot. – As for general repair works, they included the repair of the steam generating system and the main turbine No 2, as well as other steam turbine equipment. The dock works included the repair of two propellers (replacement of propeller-shaft bearing and remedial maintenance.” 

On 28 October 2017, nuclear-powered icebreaker Yamal will celebrate 25th anniversary from hoisting of the state flag. Scheduled maintenance with refueling will begin in autumn. The life cycle of the Yamal will be increased till 2023.

Nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy is expected at the berth of FSUE Atomflot on 6 February. The sip will call at Murmansk for a scheduled change of the crew, replenishment, routine post-voyage maintenance and service.
