In January 2017, the port of Ventspils handled 2.5 mln t of cargo (+40%, year-on-year), the port authority says.
Transshipment via Ventbunkers grew by 45% to 417,000 t, vial Baltic Coal Terminal – surged 5.5 times to 415,000 t, via Ventspils tirdzniecības osta - up 31.6% to 287,000 t, vial Ventall Termināls – up 2.3 times to 312,000 t, via Ventamonjaks – up 34.6% to 35,000 t.
New terminals, Eurohome Latvija and Overseas Estates Ltd., handled 75,000 t and 12,000 t accordingly.
Meanwhile, transshipment via Ventspils Nafta termināls dropped by 31% to 681,000 t and no cargo was transshipped via Ventspils Grain Terminal. Throughput of Ventplac fell 1.8 times to 30,000 t, that of Ventamonjaks Serviss – down by one third to 16,000 t, Kālija parks – totaled 13,000 t.
Transportation of passengers and automobiles by Stena Line ferries increased by a quarter: to 14,224 passengers and 4,129 automobiles. Ro-Ro ferries carried 166,600 t of cargo (+20%, year-on-year).
In December 2016, Swedish Orient Line opened a new route between Ventpils (Latvia), Zeebrugge (Belgium) and Tilbury (UK). With the new ferry service to Ventspils, its Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals boosted its January throughput by 61%, year-on-year, to 256,000 t.
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2016, the port handled 18.8 mln t of cargo.
