In January 2016, the Port of Tallinn (Estonia) handled 1.37 mln t of cargo (-38.7% %, year-on-year). According to the Port Authorities, transshipment of containers climbed by 23.7% to 18,890 TEUs.
Transshipment of general cargo fell by 11.8% to 56,400 t, dry bulk cargo – down 12.8% to 207,900 t, liquid bulk cargo – down 60.7% to 577,200 t, Ro-Ro cargo – up 13% to 360,000 t.
The number of vessels’ calls declined by 0.2% to 519,000 including 142 cargo vessels (-6%) and 377 passenger vessels (+2.2%). Passenger traffic via the port grew by 5.2% to 575,400 people.
Port of Tallinn ranks fourth largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg, Primorsk and Ust-Luga, on the Baltic Sea. The Port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2016 throughput at Tallinn port totaled 20.12 million tonnes.
