Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania in January-February 2017 grew by 5.1%, year-on-year, to 6.84 mln t, the Port Authority statistics said. In February, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 4.7%, year-on-year, to 893,640 t, general cargo – down 7.9% to 953,710 t, dry bulk cargo – up 41% to 1.59 mln t.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2016 increased by almost 4% (y-o-y) to over 40 million tonnes.
