Cargo shipments by North-Western Shipping Company up 7% to 1.35 mln t in QI’2017

The volume of cargo carried by the vessels of North-Western Shipping Company (NWSC, member of UCL Holding) in January-March 2017 totaled 1.35 million tons, which is 7% higher than the volume carried over the same period last year, says the shipping company’s press center.

0.45 million tons (which exceeds 30%) of the shipping overall was conducted by the new vessels of NWSC – 10 vessels of DCV36 project (lead ship – “Amethyst”) and 7 vessels of RSD49 “Neva-Leader” project.

In the reporting period, the vessels of NWSC carried 0.35 mln t of grain (-17% year-on-year), 0.24 mln t of ferrous metal (+33%), 0.3 mln t of chemical and mineral fertilizers (flat, year-on-year), 0.25 mln t of coal (up 2-fold), 0.05 mln t of non-ferrous metal (flat, year-on-year), 0.17 mln t of other cargoes.

The bulk of shipments – 0.96 million tons which equals to 71% - was formed by export cargo of the shipping company, its volume growing by 10%. Exports were mainly formed by grain cargo, ferrous and non-ferrous metal, coal, chemical and mineral fertilizers.

The transportation between foreign ports equaling to 0.35 million tons which accounts for 26% of the overall volume, was flat, year-on-year.

Imports fell by 35% to 0.03 million tons, which was caused by the reduction of cargo traffic from the European countries to Russia. The import ratio in the general volume of traffic equaled to 2.2%.

Domestic intra-Russia shipping was close to zero in QI’2017.
