Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, in January-April 2017 grew by 1.2%, year-on-year, to 13.44 mln t, the Port Authority statistics said. In April, he port handled 3.14 mln t (-3.8%) including 711,500 t of liquid bulk cargo (-29.3%), 906,100 t of general cargo (-13.3%) and 1.52 mln t of dry bulk cargo (+25%).
In the reporting period, the number of calls fell by 2.9% to 2,149 calls including 2 cruise ships with 549 passengers.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2016 increased by almost 4% (y-o-y) to over 40 million tonnes.
