In 2017, the capacity of Russian ports can grow by 3.8% to 1 bln 3.6 mln t, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Serik Zhusupov, Executive Director of the Association of Commercial Sea Ports, as saying at international conference “Development Prospects of Big Port St. Petersburg” organized by Morskoi Peterburg.
“Over the recent five years, the capacity of transshipment facilities grew by 30% with throughput surging by over 35% (in 2016, throughput totaled 722 mln t, up 6.7% – Ed.). That shows more efficient use of port facilities and the increase of labour productivity when it comes to transshipment of foreign trade cargo. Of course, that capacity gain was driven by large scale investments, first of all state investments under Federal Targeted Programmes for the development of Russia’s transport system in 2010-2020 and in 2010-2015”, said the head of the Association.
According to him, more than RUB 240 bln have been allocated for the development of port infrastructure in Russia from 2010, including federal and private investments.
