ABP South Wales celebrates 30 year partnership with WNO

ABP South Wales is celebrating 30-years of partnership with Welsh National Opera (WNO) by supporting a pioneering Virtual Reality (VR) opera experience.

Magic Butterfly is aptly provided in a shipping container and allows visitors to step inside and experience opera using Google Daydream technology – a mobile VR platform - to engage with re-imagined scenes from The Magic Flute and Madam Butterfly.

It is the first time that an opera company has used VR technology to showcase opera. The project aims to delight those familiar with opera, as well as providing an innovative introduction to those who may have traditionally found the genre inaccessible.

ABP South Wales has been supporting WNO since 1987 in order to support projects that deliver benefit to the local communities that surround their five ports.

The ESPO Award 2017 will go to the port that succeeds best in societal integration of the port with the city or wider community in which they are located, through involvement in art or culture. The winner will be announced on 8th November.

The Magic Butterfly experience was launched in Cardiff Bay on 14th July and will initially remain there for four weeks before travelling the country. It is free to attend and does not need to be pre-booked.
