Cargo throughput at the terminals of JSC Taganrog Commercial Sea Port (TCSP/TMTP, part of UCL Holding) between January and June jumped by 63% to 706,500 tonnes, the stevedoring company said in a press release.
The terminal operator's record volume was due to increased demand in the cargoes the port handles and thanks to the resumption of imports from Turkey.
There was a five-fold growth in general cargo segment, to 151,000 tonnes. Handling of ferrous metals and tubular products increased by 3.5 times to 90,000 tonnes, handling of 'jumbo bags' and boxes jumped by 11 times to 60,000 tonnes. However, in the reporting period Taganrog CSP handled only 69,000 tonnes of liquid bulk, a 25% drop from H1 2016.
Container throughput of TCSP declined 19% to 1,200 TEUs (or 2,550 tonnes) due to reduced import flows.
