Port of HaminaKotka seven-month cargo volumes grow 6% to 8.37 million tonnes
Freight traffic at Finland based Port of HaminaKotka between January and July 2017 rose 6% on the same period a year before to 8.37 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics show.
Handling of exports at the port grew by 6.2% to 6.13 million tonnes. The volume includes 1.57 million tonnes of paper (+1.5%),more than 901,000 tonnes of pulp (+0.5%).
There was a 5.4% decline in the segment of liquid bulk to 1,21 million tonnes, while dry bulk volumes soared 35.3% to 820,470 tonnes.
The volume of imports rose by 5.6% to 2.24 million tonnes, including 657,080 tonnes of general cargo (+7.3%), 486,550 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+58.3%) and 606,210 tonnes (-13.1%) of liquid bulk cargo.
Transit traffic grew by 7.2% to 2.01 million tonnes, while inland traffic volume shrank by 20.9% to 465,980 tonnes.
Container throughput increased by 6.3% to 397,860 TEUs. The number of Ro-Ro cargo decreased by 44.7% to 3,211 units.
Ship calls at the port of HaminaKotka fell by 4% to 1,459 vessels.
The Port of Kotka is located nearly 50 km from the Russian Federation border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish Berth), berth Halla, and also Sunila port premises. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2016, the port handled 13.4 million tonnes of cargo.
