ABP says its Port of Ipswich has announced an £170,000 investment in a fleet of new Linde forklift trucks to further improve port operations.
The purchase is part of an ongoing innovation programme, representing a substantial investment in the Port of Ipswich and involves securing state-of-the-art equipment to help meet the needs of the ABP’s customers.
The new fork lift trucks are equipped with hydraulic fork positioners to aid their operators and make the process of transporting materials more efficient. Some of their other features include integral side shift, air conditioning and the latest fuel efficient engines.
Andy Constable, Head of Operations at Ipswich, said: “We maintain a close focus on efficiency across all our processes to ensure cost-effectiveness, safety and operational improvements across all our ports. The new models we have acquired will provide unprecedented levels of reliability and reduced cost of operation, helping us to deliver significant operational savings for our customers.
“As we continue to build up our fleet of forklift trucks, we are looking to achieve optimum levels of reliability and performance together with advanced technology for reduced wear and tear and improved ergonomics for our operators.”
Marcus Sharpe, Cargo Handler at the Port of Ipswich, said “The new forklift trucks with the adjustable forks will have a positive effect over all, with great benefit to the operators”.
Andrew Harston, Short Sea Ports Director, said: “We are committed to always providing the highest quality equipment for our customers so that their operations at our ports run as smoothly as possible.
“Investing in better port infrastructure undoubtedly attracts new business, which in turn can lead to the creation of new local jobs. Together our East Anglian Ports of Ipswich, Lowestoft and King’s Lynn currently support more than 170,000 jobs and we hope to continue to play an important part in securing a bright future for the local economy.”
