Russia’s Deputy PM Dmitry Rogozin says the country needs at least 3 Leader-type icebreakers

At least 3 Leader-type icebreakers should be built in Russia, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, as saying at the meeting of the State Commission for Arctic Development held in Saint-Petersburg.

According to him, smooth functioning of the Northern Sea Route’s eastern lanes will be not possible without such icebreakers.

Dmitry Rogozin says it is necessary to facilitate the work on financing the construction of Leader-type icebreakers. Private-public partnership is under consideration today.

The work on designing the icebreaker is underway at Krylov State Research Center in cooperation with domestic design organizations.
