The WMU Executive Board (EB) held its 21st Session at IMO Headquarters in London on 08 December 2017. It was preceded by meetings of the Endowment Fund Development and Investment Committees on 07 December 2017. Both Committees updated the EB members on progress made towards operationalizing the WMU Endowment Fund in 2018. Other agenda items included the new, results-based WMU Business Plan 2018-2019 and WMU's alignment with IMO's strategic objectives in the IMO Strategic Plan 2018-2023. The EB was also updated on the status of the WMU- Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute that will be operational in 2018. The IMO Secretary-General, Mr. Kitack Lim, met with the members of the EB and the Endowment Fund Committees.
The WMU Board of Governors (BOG) appoints the EB whose mandate includes providing oversight, monitoring the implementation of decisions of the BOG, submitting the work programme and budget estimates of WMU to the BOG, coordinating governance between sessions of the BOG and ensuring the effectiveness and continuity of its operations as well as facilitating the work of WMU. The EB meets three times a year. Members of the EB serve renewable two-year terms.
