On December 19, Feodosia, Russia based shipyard Morye held a keel laying ceremony for the small-sized missile ship Vikhr of Project 22800, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.
It is the third small missile ship to be built by Morye for the Russian Navy. The shipyard is currently building two other ships of Project 22800, Shtorm and Okhotsk.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief of Navy Shipbuilding Department Captain 1st Rank Mikhail Krasnopeyev, RF Defence Ministry representative Sergey Sheluntsov, Executive Director of the shipyard Sergey Veryovkin, representatives of Feodosia administration, veterans and shipbuilders.
The 22800 series missile boat was designed by Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau to the requirements of the Navy's High Command. The vessel has a displacement of about 800 tonnes, maximum speed - 30 knots. It is fitted with high-precision missile and artillery systems, and advanced navigation equipment. The design incorporates the following features: high maneuverability, high seaworthiness, superstructure and hull stealth technology. The missile craft is able to perform tasks in the maritime zone 3,000 nm off the ship homeport.
Shipbuilding Plant "Morye”, State Unitary Enterprise of the Republic of Crimea, specializes in building vessels for both civil and defense sectors. In 2015-2016, the shipyard underwent a large scale upgrading of production facilities including the purchase of new equipment. The company’s competence and experience lets it build high-speed passenger ships and emergency rescue vessels.
