Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, in January-December 2017 grew by 7.5%, year-on-year, to 43.17 mln t, the Port Authority statistics said. Transshipment of dry bulk cargo grew by 15.8% to 19.24 mln t, liquid bulk cargo- by 2.8% to 11.49 mln t, general cargo – by 0.7% to 12.44 mln t.
In November, the port handled 4.09 mln t (+16.2%) including 1.14 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+17.1%), 1.15 mln t of general cargo (+15.4%), 1.8 mln t of dry bulk cargo (+16.3%).
In the reporting period, the number of calls totaled 6,568.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2016 increased by almost 4% (y-o-y) to over 40 million tonnes.
