Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, in January 2018 grew by 4.8%, year-on-year, to 3.57 mln t, the Port Authority statistics said. Transshipment of dry bulk cargo grew by 11.2% to 1.05 million tonnes, liquid bulk cargo – down 8.2% to 1.38 million tonnes, general cargo – up 19% to 1.14 million tonnes.
In the reporting period, Butinge Terminal handled 747,800 tonnes of oil (-16.9%).
The port’s passenger throughput grew by 9.6% to 1,040 passengers
The number of calls totaled 535.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2016 increased by almost 4% (y-o-y) to over 40 million tonnes.
