Russia experiences severe shortage of dedicated grain terminals in Southern Basin – expert

Russia experiences a severe shortage of dedicated grain terminals, especially in the Southern Basin, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Alexander Goloviznin, Director Analytics and Logistics, Morstroytechnology, as saying at the 2-nd International Conference ShippingRu 2018  (28 February, Moscow).

According to him, the capacity of existing ports in the Southern Basin is limited by the infrastructure and depth, hence the need for construction of new port facilities.

The expert also said that the grain market situation is favorable for construction of a grain terminal in the North-Western Region.

According to Victor Olersky, Deputy Transport Minister of Russia – head of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot), this region needs additional facilities for 53 mln t of cargo per year which are not covered by the current projects. This problem will be solved with implementation of the project on construction of Taman port’s dry cargo area designed for transshipment of more than 90 mln t.
