Chittatong (Bangladesh) quadruples gantry crane charge

The Chittagong Port Authority has decided to quadruple its charge for handling box cargo with its quay gantry cranes for gearless vessels. The move is reported to be facing stiff opposition from shipping agents as many feeder vessels running through the port are gearless. The charge will rise to US$14.60 per teu from its current US$3.63. Ships with their own cranes will be charged the old rate.
