Throughput of Ventspils Naftas Terminals down 29.6% in 2006

In 2006, Ventspils naftas terminals (Ventspils Oil Terminal, VNT) – subsidiary of the holding Ventspils nafta (VN) – transshipped 5.7 million tons of oil and oil products (-29.6%, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports. The share of sea transportation totaled 1.24 million tons, one million more compared to that of 2005. Railways delivered 2.08 million tons of diesel fuel, 2.06 million tons of petrol and 0.3 million tons of other oil products. Delivery of oil and oil products by sea was started in 2005. In its announcement for Riga Stock Exchange, VN attributed low results of 2006 to a number of reasons beyond the company’s control: high railway tariffs set up by Russia and market fluctuations.

In December 2006 VNT handled over 0.4 million tons of oil and oil products including 0.2 million tons of petrol delivered by railway, over 0.1 million tons of oil delivered by sea and almost 0.1 million tons of other oil products. In 2005 VNT handled 8.1 million tons of oil and oil products - -0.3 million (-3.6 compared to 2004). The largest shareholders of Ventspils nafta are Latvijas Naftas tranzits and Vitol Group.
