In January-July 2017, the port of Ventspils handled 11.58 million tonnes of cargo (-15%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 10% to 6.558 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo – down 29% to 3.451 million tonnes, general cargo – up 9% to 1.571 million tonnes.
The port’s container throughput totaled 2,108 TEUs (no containers were handled in the same period of the previous year). Turnover of passengers grew by 8% to 129,749. The number of calls was flat year-on-year at 897 units.
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2017, the port handled 20 million tonnes of cargo.
