On 17 October 2018, Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Region based Vympel Shipbuilding Plant (Vimpel Shipyard, part of the Kalashnikov Concern) launched yet another coast guard boat of Project 1496М1, codename Lamantin, (hull No 01411), built for FSB cBorder Guard Service, the Company’s press center says.
It is the third upgraded boat of project 1496М1 in a series of five units intended for FSB Coast Guard Service.
The ceremony was attended by Aleksandr Smirnov, First Deputy to Managing Director of Vympel Shipyard, the crew of the boat, representative of Young Seafarers’ Club named after Yevgeny Kovrizhnykh, Rybinsk cadets, shipyard personnel.
The ceremony also included blessing of the ship and a bottle of champagne was smashed over the hull by the ship’s godmother Irina Makhova, representative of the company’s Design Technology Department.
The ship will undergo sea and acceptance/delivery tests in the Black Sea. With the changes foreseen by the ship design and implemented by the shipyard, the ship will obtain a new rank. The vessel will join the customer’s fleet as border patrol ship IV rank, Project 03050, codename Gyuys.
The boat is intended for monitoring of compliance in internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Russian Federation, detention and protection of non-compliant vessels including high-speed boats; delivery of inspection teams, ensuring compliance with border control regime within and off the ports; transportation of cargo and personnel; port operations; providing assistance to vessels in distress; fighting fires on vessels and onshore facilities.
