Sovcomflot named a finalist in four different categories of 2018 Lloyd’s List Global Awards

Sovcomflot (SCF Group) has been shortlisted for four 2018 Lloyd’s List Global Awards: Company of the Year, ClassNK Tanker Operator of the Year, Deal of the Year, and Environment Award – Individual Company.

In no small part, the recognition of the industry experts was down to SCF’s Green Funnel project, which has seen the Company pioneer the adoption of cleaner-burning LNG as a primary fuel for its Aframax tankers. A series of next-generation Aframaxes, designed to operate on LNG fuel, is currently under construction for SCF, with two vessels already delivered so far: Gagarin Prospect, in July 2018, and Lomonosov Prospect, on October 2018. On 2 October 2018, the inaugural LNG bunkering of Gagarin Prospecttook place at the Port of Rotterdam, and on 15 October, the vessel loaded its first export cargo of Russian crude oil at the Port of Primorsk.

These next generation tankers have a minimal impact on the environment. Tankers fuelled by LNG have zero sulphur oxide (SOx) and particulate emissions and emit 76 per cent less nitrogen oxides (NOx); 27 per cent less carbon dioxide (CO2), than similar vessels operating on heavy fuel oil.

This is the fifth year running that SCF has been a finalist of the Lloyd’s List Global Awards and has been a three-time winner. The Company was awarded ClassNK Tanker Operator of the Year in 2017, Company of the Year in 2010, and 2005, the Group’s President & CEO Sergey Frank was awarded Newsmaker of the Year. Additionally, Sovcomflot is a six-times finalist of the Awards: for Company of the Year (2017); for the Safety Award (2016); for Deal of the Year (2015, 2014), and for the Ship of the Year Award (2008, 2007).

Winners of the 2018 Lloyd’s List Global Awards will be announced in London on 11 December 2018.
