Major ASW ship Severomorsk completes official visit to Madagascar

The crew of the large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet Severomorsk completed a business call at the port of Antsiranana (Madagascar) and continued to perform tasks in the Indian Ocean according to the long-range cruise plan, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.

The business call of Russian sailors in the port of Victoria lasted for four days from October 21. During this time, the major ASW Severomorsk was visited by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Madagascar and the Union of the Comoros Stanislav Akhmedov, senior leaders of the armed forces of Madagascar, as well as local residents.

A part of the ship’s crew, free from shifts and ship works, had the opportunity to go ashore to explore the sights of the northernmost city of Madagascar.

The visit of the Russian ship is held in accordance with the plan of international military cooperation of the Ministry of Defence of Russia. The major ASW ship Severomorsk visit the ports of Algeria, Viktoria, Pemba and Antsiranana.

The long-distance cruise of the Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser started when she left the main basing point –– Severomorsk –– on July 5, 2018. ASW ship Severomorsk together with the  missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov took part in the Main Naval Parade in the city of Kronstadt, and then in the joint exercises of the Russian Navy in the Baltic and Mediterranean seas. The ship has been operating in the Indian Ocean since late September.

During the trip the ship has traveled about 19,000 nautical miles.
