ASW Severomorsk of RF Navy's Northern Fleet makes a call to the Republic of Djibouti

Today, the major ASW ship Severomorsk, the Northern Fleet, being on distant cruise in the Indian Ocean, has made a call to the port of Djibouti, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.

The visit to the foreign port will be carried out according to a standard program: replenishment of fuel, fresh water and food supplies, as well as short-term rest of personnel on the coast and sightseeing.

By the end of the business call, the crew of the major ASW ship Severomorsk will continue to perform tasks in the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea according to the long-distance campaign plan.

Two weeks earlier, the Northern Fleet's seamen made an informal visit to the Pakistani Navy base – the port of Karachi – and took part in the Arabian Monsoon 2018 international Russian-Pakistani counter-piracy exercise. It also involved in the marine tanker Northern fleet Kama, the frigate Saif, missile boat Kuvat, patrol boat Karar and a Sea King helicopter of the Pakistan Navy.

The long-distance cruise of the major ASW ship Severomorsk started when she left the main basing point –– Severomorsk –– on July 5, 2018. The ship has been operating in the Indian Ocean since late September.

The ship has already passed more than 29,000  nautical miles on a long voyage, the crew has fulfilled a number of military and diplomatic tasks and visited the ports of five African and Asian states, as well as carried out prevention of piracy activities in the region.
