ESPS Relámpago conducted a Passing Exercise (PASSEX) with the UAE Navy corvette UEAS Al Hesen on 16th January. The PASSEX included a series of communications and manoeuvring exercises, EU NAVFOR says in a press release. Personnel from the UAE Navy also saw damage control exercises demonstrated by Relámpago’s crew, and discussed some of the equipment used in counter-piracy operations.
These exercises provide the warships a valuable opportunity to test their communication and coordination linkages, and strengthen the mutual understanding of the ships’ capabilities, practices, and procedures.
The successful results of the exercise are a testament to the commitment of participating ships in contributing to global maritime security through counter-piracy and maritime security efforts. Op ATALANTA is more than ships, and encouraging cooperation and coordination amongst our partners remains important using all assets at our disposal.
