Vostochnaya Verf shipyard launches small seagoing tanker Mikhail Barskov
On 27 August 2019, Vostochnaya Verf shipyard (Vladivostok) launched a small seagoing tanker, Mikhail Barskov. According to the statement of the Primorsky Territory Government, it is the largest tanker launched in Primorye over the period of 30 years. The ship is 80 meters long and 15.4 meters wide.
Oleg Sidenko, General Director of Vostochnaya Verf JSC, says the order was received in 2014.
The ice class ship is intended for supplying Arctic vessels with liquid and dry cargoes as well as participation in rescue operations. The Mikhail Barskov tanker is intended for patrol and rescue duty in the areas of shipping, search and salvage of stricken ships, pumping of water from flooded compartments, towing of stricken vessels to shelter. It can also be used as a fire-fighting ship and accommodate helicopters and drones.
The tanker is named after Vice-Admiral Mikhail Barskov, Commander-in-Chief of RF Navy for armament, shipbuilding and operation between 1989 and 2003. The solemn ceremony was attended by Mikhail Barskov's daughter Natalya.
Deputy Governor Aleksandr Kostenko congratulated the shipbuilders and awarded certificates of appreciation to personnel of Vostochnaya Verf.
