ABP says the Port of Southampton welcomed MSC Grandiosa on her UK launch on 12 November.
Southampton is the first call on her maiden cruise and the 6,334 passenger ship was welcomed to the port with the official plaque and key ceremony on board.
MSC, the family-run cruise line, is committing to strong environmental goals over the coming years and MSC Grandiosa is now one of the most environmentally advanced cruise ships at sea.
She is heavily equipped with a comprehensive range of leading-edge environmental technologies including systems that help reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 80% through advance emissions control technology. These technologies mark a significant step in towards zero-emissions operations.
ABP’s Regional Director for Southampton Alastair Welch said: “We are proud to welcome MSC Grandiosa to the port. Having hosted the naming ceremony for MSC Bellissima earlier in the year, it is great to have the team back for another significant event in the launch of their latest vessel.”
“We welcome the environmental technologies which support our own commitments in being a leading port for sustainable operations.”
The Port of Southampton is Europe’s leading cruise turn-around port welcoming 500 cruise calls each year with 2 million passengers.
