Missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov leaves Cape Town for exercise with frigates of South Africa and China in South Atlantic

This morning, missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov completed a visit to the port of Cape Town, South Africa, and went to sea to carry out the practical part of the joint Russian-Chinese-South African naval exercise to ensure the safety of navigation and maritime economic activity, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.

Maneuvers will take place in the southern Atlantic Ocean near the Cape of Good Hope with the participation of warships - the Chinese frigate Weifang and the South African frigate Amatol, as well as support vessels for the Russian Navy and the South African Navy.

The exercise will last two days, during which naval officers will practice joint actions to free the captured ship, to conduct search operations, assist the emergency ship and save people at sea.

On July 3, the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov left Severomorsk to take part in the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg. After the parade, its crew took part in Ocean Shield 2019 Navy training.

For two months, the ship operated in the Mediterranean Sea, where it conducted a series of exercises, visited Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Greece and Cyprus. In the Atlantic Ocean, Russian sailors made business calls at the ports of Praia of the Republic of Cape Verde and Malabo Equatorial Guinea.

From the beginning of the long voyage, the ships and vessels of the detachment have covered about 26,000 nautical miles.
