Handling of dry bulk cargo rose by 16.6%, liquid bulk cargo – by 1.6%
In January-August 2023, seaports of Russia increased their throughput by 8.7%, year-on-year, to 601.3 million tonnes. Handling of dry bulk cargo totaled 304.3 million tonnes (+16.6%) including coal — 143.8 million tonnes (+7.3%), containerized cargo — 33 million tonnes (+7.3%), grain - 47.7 million tonnes (up 2-fold), ferrous metal — 14.7 million tonnes (-18.2%), mineral fertilizers — 23.3 million tonnes (up 1.6 times), ore — 6.7 million tonnes (-29.5%), cargo carried by ferries — 5.1 million tonnes (+22.8%), according to Association of Commercial Sea Ports.
In the reported period, handling of liquid bulk cargo totaled 297 million tonnes (+1.6%) including crude oil — 182.7 million tonnes (+5.5%), petroleum products — 85.5 million tonnes (-7%), liquefied gas — 22.4 million tonnes (-5.2%) and liquid food — 3.9 million tonnes (+44%).
Exports totaled 470.9 million tonnes (+7.2%), imports — 25.9 million tonnes (+8.3%), transit — 44.3 million tonnes (+9%), short-sea traffic — 60.2 million tonnes (+22.1%).
Seaports in the Arctic basin handled 65.8 million tonnes (+0.8%) including 21 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+13.2%) and 44.8 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-4.1%). The prt of Murmansk handled 40.1 million tonnes (+7%), Sabetta — 18.1 million tonnes (-4.1%), Varandey — 3.5 million tonnes (-12.1%), Arkhangelsk — 1.2 million tonnes (-29.4%).
Seaports in the Baltic basin handled 168.6 million tonnes (+3.2%) including 75.8 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+18.9%) and 92.8 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-6.9%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 78.3 million tonnes (-2.1%), Primorsk — 43.3 million tonnes (+9%), Great Port of Saint-Petersburg — 31.1 million tonnes (+16.9%), Vysotsk — 8.9 million tonnes (-17%).
Seaports in the Azov-Black Sea Basin handled 200.9 million tonnes (+18.2%) including 96.9 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+28.8%) and 104 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+9.7%). The port of Novorossiysk handled 109.8 million tonnes (+12.2%), Taman — 28.9 million tonnes (+1.8%), Tuapse — 17.1 million tonnes (+26.2%), Kavkaz — 15.3 million tonnes (up 1.7 times), Rostov-on-Don — 11.2 million tonnes (+24%).
Seaports in the Caspian basin handled 5 million tonnes (+37.3%) including 3 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (up 1.7 times) and 2 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+3.5%). The port of Astrakhan handled 2.4 million tonnes (up 1.6 times), Makhachkala - 2.3 million tonnes (+17.5 %).
Seaports in the Far East basin handled 161 million tonnes (+6.6%) including 107.6 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+5.8%) and 53.4 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+8.4%). Vostochny Port handled 58.4 million tonnes (+8.4%), Vanino — 24.5 million tonnes (-2.2%), Vladivostok — 22.4 million tonnes (+5.6%), Nakhodka — 18.1 million tonnes (+4.4%), Prigorodnoye — 8.7 million tonnes (-15.8%).
In January-August 2023, Russian seaports serviced 36.5 thousand passenger ships (-17.3%), sea terminals serviced 2.4 million people (-11.1%) including 1.2 million departing passengers (down by a half) and 1.2 million arriving passengers (up 4.3 times). No transit passenger were serviced over the period.
Most of passengers were serviced at dedicated passenger terminals of Sevastopol — 1.97 million passengers (-9.3%), Yalta — 196.8 thousand passengers (-47.7%), Sochi — 198.2 thousand passengers (+39.1%).
