Shell says most oil around Bukom, Singapore cleaned up after leak

Shell said on Tuesday that most of the oil leak from a land-based pipeline at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Singapore on Bukom island had been cleaned up, with only small patches of light sheens around the island and Bukom Kechil remaining, according to Reuters.

The company has not received any reports of new oil sightings at sea and ashore on Tuesday, and as a precaution it has put in resources to support any clean-up that may be required, it said in a press release.

The company said on Monday there had been no impact to operations after around 30-40 metric tons of slop, which is a mixture of oil and water, leaked into the sea on Sunday.

Singapore agencies earlier said the clearing of the remaining oil trapped in the channel between Pulau Bukom and Bukom Kechil, stained rock bunds and infrastructure was expected in the coming days. They continue to monitor for oil sightings, according to a joint statement from agencies, including the Building and Construction Authority, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) and others.
