Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Murmansk, a city beyond the polar circle, where he is expected to chair a joint conference of the State Council presidium and the Maritime Board over the development of sea transport infrastructure, Itar-Tass reports.
The conference is expected to take place on board the ice-breaker "50th Anniversary of the Victory." The president will also meet with regional governor Yuri Yevdokimov.
Prior to the meeting, Putin will see infrastructure facilities in the Kola Bay.
It is not the president's first visit to the city. He traveled to Murmansk for the first time in April 2000, as acting head of state.
Putin last visited the region in August 2005, to watch an exercise involving strategic far-range aviation and the Northern Fleet.
