In January-April 2007 the port of Liepaja (Latvia) 2% handled 1347 thou tons of cargo (-2%, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports. Over the reported period the port handled 601.6 thou tons of loose dry cargo (+12.3%, year-on-year) mostly grain - 361 thou tons (+27.4%). Transshipment of general cargo totaled 463.5 thou tons (-11.4%) including 220.7 thou tons of ferrous metal (-5.6%), 181.2 thou tons of timber (-18.6%). In the 4-month period the port of Liepaja transshipped 281.5 thou tons of liquid bulk cargo (-10.5%) including 208.7 thou tons of oil products (-14.2%) and 59.5 thou tons of crude oil (-8.3%).
The highest volumes were transshipped by stevedoring company Liepajas osta LM - 389 thou tons (+6.8%). Then comes TransWide Service with 178.8 thou tons (+15.2%) and Laskana with 146.5 thou tons (-30.9%).
Liepaja harbor is the third in terms of throughput in Latvia. In 2006 its throughput totaled 4.001 million tons.
