Development of the exchange centre will be divided in two phases. The first will focus on the construction of an inter-provincial cargo transport route platform, while the second phase will develop a price index and service network, the report said.
The freight exchange centre will be the only public information logistics platform specialising in road haulage and it is expected to release a highway freight rate index, boosting the development of logistics standardisation.
The CNY167 million (US$21.6 million) project, in the western suburban area of Shanghai, will be integrated into an overland freight public platform, a trading centre and transit station.
There will be 150 seats on the trading exchange and one seat will be open to transport companies in each city. Strong, competitive firms are expected to take the seats.
The exchange centre will also include a double-floor transitting platform with total area of about 30,000 square metres, which will provide transport and distribution services 24 hours a day.
