On May 9, at 20.30 Moscow time, river-going tanker Volganeft-217 owned by shipping company Vision Fleet LLC hit the upper lock gate when entering the lock No 3 of the Volga-Baltic canal from the side of the upper pool, the company’s press center reports. According to the document executed at the site, the accident was caused by a mistake made by the lock watch head. The damage of the gate is 6 x 2.45 meters. The tanker has not been damaged and no oil spill occurred. Now the tanker is in the lower pool of the lock No 1 of Vytegorsk canal. After the vessel is examined by divers and surveyed by experts of RosTransNadzor this afternoon it will continue its way to the port of St. Petersburg. Vision Fleet LLC was set up in 2001 by transport companies SFAT, Rivertrans Shipping and Nasdor Inc. in equal shares. The company is the second largest river bulk-oil shipping company in Russia. The company operates over 40 own tankers and barges with a total deadweight of about 120 thou tons. Considering chartered vessels the fleet numbers 60 units with a total deadweight of almost 200 thou tons.
