The keel laying ceremony for a new container ship for the FESCO (Far Eastern Shipping Company) Transport Group was held in Nanjing, China.The new ship will be named after the Argun River, the rise of the Amur River. As FESCO reports, the new ship is planed to enter the company's fleet at the end of January 2008. It is the sixth ship of this kind, which is built for the FESCO at the Nanjing shipyard. The FESCO Transport Group successfully operates the first four container ships of this kind.The vessel's capacity is 1,080 TEU. The ship provides for the extra option to power 220 refrigerator containers for transportation of cooled goods. All ships of this kind have high-class automation providing non-watch operation of engine-room. When fully loaded, the ship can sail at the rate of 20 knots. The new ship will be named after the Argun River, the rise of the Amur River. This is the forth ship in the FESCO fleet with this name. The first one, cargo steamer Argun, was received through lend-lease from the USA and worked in the company's fleet between 1942 and 1951. The timber ship Argun was built in Poland in 1965 and worked in the company's fleet for 22 years (1966-1987). The dry cargo ship Argun, which was built in 1991, left company's fleet in 2005.The program to increase the FESCO fleet's container capacity is part of the Group's strategy of focusing its efforts on the fast growing market of container transportations. Today FESCO is the biggest sea container operator in Russia. Its container fleet consists of 25 ships with the total capacity of 21,327 TEU.Key measurements of FESCO ARGUN Deadweight: 13,760 tons.
