In January-April 2007 throughput of Vostochny port totaled 6,561.8 thou tons (+5.4%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Over the reported period, transshipment of general cargo amounted to 1,016.6 thou tons (+12%, year-on-year) including 988.6 thou tons of containerized cargo (+24.12%), 6.7 thou tons of metal scrap (-48.5%). Transshipment of machines and equipment decreased by 10% to 0.6 thou tons. In the four-month period transshipment of timber totaled 144.2 thou tons (+17.05%), bulk cargo –5383.5 thou tons (+3.2%) including 5,069.8 thou tons of coal and coke (+4.7%), 313.7 thou tons of potassium salt (-8.09%). Transshipment of loose cargo was not carried out in the port in January-April of the current year. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 17.5 thou tons (in January-April 2006 transshipment of liquid bulk cargo was not carried out in the port). Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
