Novoship takes delivery of Aframax tanker built by Samsung Heavy Industries

On May 14, Novorossiysk Shipping Company (Novoship) took delivery of a new Aframax class tanker "NS Leader" built at S. Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries, Interfax-Yug reports according to Yuga.Ru. The 115,000-dwt vessel is 250 meters long and has a speed of 15 knots. Three more vessels of the same class are to be finished and delivered by Samsung Heavy Industries to Novoship by the end of 2007.  Another S. Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries will deliver 105,000-dwt Aframax tanker to Novoship on May 16. On May 22 the vessel is to be put into operation. Both vessels having unlimited navigation area are fitted with automated navigation and cargo handling control systems. They meet all the requirements of the largest international oil companies. Deployment of the tankers is provisioned by a Strategy of Novoship GC development for 2006-2010 approved in August 2006 by the company’s BOD. Under the program, in the second half of 2007, the fleet of Novoship will get six more new tankers including four Aframax class vessels. In 2006 the company’s fleet was enlarged by 9 vessels to total number of 62 units with a total deadweight of 3.8 million tons and average age of 10.3 years. The fleet’s market value is about $2.4 billion.

Major shareholders of Novoship are Rosimushchestvo (Federal Property Management System) - 60.73% of voting shares, RFFI (Russian Fund of Federal Property) – 6.4%, Novoshipinvest OJSC – 8.49%, Intrigue Shipping – 14.41%.
