Poaching vessel with 35 tonnes of crab detained in Sea of Okhotsk

Sakhalin’s poaching vessel The Taranai was detained with 35 tonnes of contraband crab in the south of the Sea of Okhotsk in the early hours of Wednesday, an official of the Federal Security Service’s border guard department told Itar-Tass. A patrol ship has been chasing a poacher for two hours before it stopped. Border guards reported violations of shipping documents and of technical control means. The Taranai is registered in Kholmsk on the west coast of the Sakhalin Island and has a twenty-two-strong crew.

At present, the vessel is being tugged to one of the Sakhalin region’s ports for investigation.
