Cosco signs up as Prince Rupert's first customer

Cosco Container Lines Americas has signed a deal with Canadian National Railway Co that see the carrier become the first shipping company to route Asian cargo through the new Port of Prince Rupert terminal on Canada's West Coast.
The line is a unit of Beijing-based China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co and will begin the service for container shipments in the fourth quarter, CN said in a statement.
The first phase of the Prince Rupert terminal project will have a container capacity of 500,000 TEU. It is part of a broader plan to build a facility capable of handling two million TEUs a year.
