New sea terminal for ro-ro and containerized cargo to be built in Leningrad region
Terminal Novaya Gavan LLC plans to build a sea terminal for transshipment of ro-ro and containerized cargo in Leningrad region within two years. Investment is said to make $120 mln. Terminal Novaya Gavan LLC is the project originator. The company plans to occupy the territory of 54.5 hectares. The project is to comprise two phases. The first one implies construction of a ro-ro terminal designed for transshipment of 250,000 motorcars per year. The second provisions construction of a 1.7 mln ton container terminal. The terminals are to be operated by 300 persons. The works are to be finalized in two years. According to the company’s representative, 70% of motorcar logistics falls on the port of Finland. Motorcars transported by car carries arrive via Russian border resulting in large congestions at customs. The project is aimed at both unloading of customs points at border crossings and decrease the load at the region’s roads.
