Karachi violence disrupts bunkering

The Pakistani port of Karachi is facing a backlog of bunker deliveries after the port was shut down for three days.
Port activities, including bunkering operations, were halted from Saturday to Monday, local suppliers said.
Violence broke out on Saturday in unrest triggered by the suspension earlier this year of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. On Monday, strikes brought Karachi city and its port to a virtual standstill.
Local bunker suppliers said no bunkering activities were carried out during the three days of the shutdown, but the situation was gradually improving.
''The situation in Karachi port is getting back to normal, probably in another day or two,'' Syed Hussaini, international fuels manager for Faisal Marine Oil Services, told Bunkerworld.
''Availability of products in the port is fine, but the backlog is still there,'' said Hussaini.  ''The violence had affected bunkering operations quite harshly.'' The latest outbreaks of violence in the city of Karachi have left 41 people dead.
