Dutch firms to develop Indonesian port

Independent engineering consultancy firms Witteveen Bos and Movares Group BV from the Netherlands have signed a memorandum of understanding to invest $267 million in a port expansion project in West Sumatra, Indonesia.
The agreement to develop and upgrade the Teluk Bayur port of Padang, West Sumatra, was signed yesterday news reports said.
Padang Mayor Fauzi Bahar told Asia Pulse that construction work will begin very soon as all the necessary investment for the port expansion has been secured.
According to Fauzi, the Dutch firms have been studying and developing the expansion plans for a few years already and will begin to carry out final surveys in August.
Tenders would be released shortly and preliminary works are expected to begin early next year.
The expansion project will include the building of new piers, a crude palm oil silo and the development of a container terminal.
Witteveen Bos and Movares Group BV are specialist consulting agencies using cross-disciplinary expertise to provide integrated solutions for large and complex engineering projects.
