Klaipedos Smelte (Lithuania) opens new container terminal

Stevedoring company Klaipedos Smelte (Lithuania) has opened a new container terminal, Lietuvos rytas reports according to RZD-Partner. The investment into the terminal construction is said to total over $17 million. Thus, the company plans to take leading positions at the market of container transportation at the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea and to rival Klaipedos terminalo grupe.

This year the terminal is to handle 50,000 containers, and in future it plans to handle 250,000 container per year. The terminal occupies the territory of 7 hectares with the depth of 11.5 meters at the quay wall.
