Commercial Seaport of Kaliningrad handles 41.3 thou TEU in Jan.-Apr. 07, y-o-y

In January-April 2007, Commercial Seaport of Kaliningrad handled a record-high amount of containers – 41,342 TEU (+38%, year-on-year), Vladimir Kalinichenko, the port’s Director General states according to IA REGNUM. According to Kalinichenko, it was a correct decision to open the port for such large ocean container carriers as MSC, Hamburg Sud, APL, as well as CMA-CGM, COSCO and Hapag-Lloyd.

Considering growing volumes, Commercial Seaport of Kaliningrad has recently acquired one container handler and two bucket loaders. New handling equipment is financed by the port’s own funds. In QI of the current year the port financed acquisition of equipment for EUR 1 million. By the end of the year the figure will grow three-fold, Kalinichenko says. Besides, the company has sighed contracts for purchase of one 40-tonn portal crane and 4 units of other equipment (mainly container handlers and metal handling equipment).
