Group of Companies Severstaltrans plans to attract over $250 million for development of the stevedoring company Petrolesport OJSC (PLP, port of St. Petersburg), correspondent of PortNews IAA learnt Saturday, May 26, at the presentation of Petrolesport development program. Investment into the first phase of the development program is to exceed $100 million. According to the PLP’s official press release, the company has considerable territorial and technological possibilities for increase of its capacities. The basic element of the investment program is the increase of container handling. According to the development strategy, container throughput of PLP will grow to 1.2 million TEU by 2012, and to 1.8 million TEU by 2015. Within the framework of the program it is planned to start operation of the new berth (190-meter long and 12-meter deep), refrigerator terminal for 2000 sockets, modern packing-unpacking complex; equip the waterfront with new coastal container handlers; 2-fold increase of the railway cargo front грузовой фронт
.As of today, annual capacity of the container terminal is 500,000 TEU. In 2006, its container throughput totaled 313,000 TEU, in 2007 it is planned to handle 430,000 TEU.In January-April 2007, throughput of PLP totaled 2.24 million tons of cargo (+18%, year-on-year). In the reported period the company transshipped 1.055 million tons of containerized cargo (+24.6%, year-on-year), 675 thou tons of general cargo (+23%) and 510 thou tons of timber (+1.4%). Throughput of the container terminal grew by 43% to 124,000 TEU. In 2007, PLP entered Severstaltrans GC. The terminal has been in operation since 1994. In 2006, it was the second largest terminal in Russia in terms of container transshipment.
