Vietnam Chamber of Commerce vice president Hoang Van Dung said the THC would be US$20 per TEU and $30 per FEU while the Intra-Asia Discussion Agreement (IADA) has already introduced a $50 rate per TEU and $75 per FEU.
It has also been suggested that the charge to be collected in Vietnam starting from January 2008 would be $60 per TEU and $90 per FEU, according to a recent letter from the IADA to the chamber, said Mr Dung.
The IADA has yet to accept the proposed THC starting levels suggested by a Vietnamese council. The council, a body of textile, footwear, electronics, seafood and agri-business exporters set up to negotiate terms along with the government representatives from the Civil Maritime Administration and the ministries of trade, finance and transport has petitioned the IADA to postpone the THC collection until next year, arguing that application should be in sync with annual contracts already signed.
