Busan offers port fee exemptions

Korea's Busan Port Authority (BPA) says container vessels will be exempt anchorage and entrance fees if they call at both Busan port and Busan New Port (BNP).
Starting on July 1, a 5,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) container vessel calling at both ports will save $700 on port entrance fees and $365 on achorage fees.
The port commissioners of the BPA are also introducing a regular barge service for container cargo, linking BNP with the current Busan port.
The "two port calling-system" will be in place for two years.
The barge-shuttle service will begin as soon as a private operator has been contracted.
Tenders for the service are expected to be invited soon.
BPA's public relations office said the BPA would cover any operational losses incurred by ther barge operator.
The intention is that each barge trip should carry between 150 and 200 TEUs.
