Hamburg Sud names fourth of six 3,752-TEU ships from Daewoo

Hamburg Sud has named its new 3,752-TEU containership, the Bahia Grande, at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering yard in Okpo, Korea, said a company communique.
The Bahia Grande is the fourth of six identical vessels ordered from Daewoo by the German shipping line. Following the delivery on May 31, the Bahia Grande is to be phased into liner service between Asia, South Africa and South America's east coast.
Naming the new ship was Barbara Weigmann, wife of Hans-Henning Weigman, the chairman of Henkell & Sohnlein Sektkellereien KG in Wiesbaden, which like Hamburg Sud, is a unit of the Oetker Group.
The 50,800-ton (dwt) Bahia Grande has 610 reefer plugs, an overall length of 254 metres, a beam of 32.2 metres and a maximum draught of 12.4 metres. The ship has a top speed of 21.5 knots.
